Method vs Madness Is More Brain And Less Brawn
When I was a kid I remember a TV show called Brains & Brawn - according to Wikipedia this was in 1993 so I would have been 14… a bit older than I would have thought, but anyway.
The show was so great, partly because of the hosts – Zack from Saved by the Bell and Ashley from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air were mega-stars for my demographic - and partly because it would have been so much fun to be on… it was filmed at Universal Studios in Hollywood and had kids my age playing fun games with celebrities and winning cool prizes! Amazing I know.
But despite the undeniable entertainment value of the show, there was an issue with the title…
As I remember, besides one or two quiz-games, the show was all brawn and almost no brain.
If you ask me, brawn is way over-rated!
The way I see it – and it’s time I made this relevant – the big news sites are all brawn, constantly pumping crazy amounts of info into the internet…. but I’m not saying this is a bad thing, they definitely make our lives better.
What is a bad thing is that many blogs just copy this format as some kind of best practice convention, and they simply end up small news sites. They don’t have the brawn to go with the big guys in terms of volume of quality.
So comparing back to the show now, the brawny parts entertained me for a short moment and gave me something to talk about at school on Monday – much like the typically fleeting lifespan of a news story and how I’d talk to work colleagues about it before we all forget it ever happened.
But the brainy parts were interactive and made me think. They actually helped me with school since they were all about general knowledge and cognitive skills.
In a similar way, the blogs I love the most make me think and help me out with my career over the long-term.
They actually write articles which are relevant years after they’re written! Which is very impressive.
So to sum up this odd section…
Method vs Madness wants to make you think about stuff, and not just know about stuff.
Method vs Madness Is A Resource And Not A News Site
Method vs Madness is… a book, a blog, a resource.
It’s fair to say we’re against organised chaos, we’re just organised. And there’s no method to the madness here… we’re all method – and we hope you are too.
Method vs Madness is not a news site and never will be. It’s a guide, an opinion, it’s editorial and analysis.
It’s also advice and consultation.
Conversation Marketing and Copy Blogger are two of the best opinion-based blogs that we aspire to.
Method vs Madness is what we learn from the best – and worst – of digital marketing.
It’s proactive not reactive, long-term not short-term. It’s taking the time to do the job properly.
It’s strategic and not ad-hoc, and it’s an ongoing struggle.
Method vs Madness is a way of thinking… thinking about how we go about our digital marketing and making it awesome, then ultimately scoring some awesome results.
So while everyone else is talking about their expertise, like SEO, social media and content marketing,
we’ll be talking about how to put all these together into a combo better than a midnight snack of lamington ice cream with raspberries… or whatever you happen to think is that good.
Three Things We’re Doing And Three Ways You Can Help
- We’re writing the digital marketing rule book. The digital marketing rule book will make up most of this site and this is where we’ll be documenting all the rules and conventions of awesome digital marketing. If you fancy yourself as a digital marketing philosopher you can help us compile the rules and vote them in or out of the book. The best contributions will receive credits on the site and maybe even writing opportunities. If conversely you happen to be somewhat more analogue than digital, you’re still very welcome and important – you can let us know about the things that matter to you so we can prioritise which bits get written first.
- We’re also writing a blog. The blog has the unenviable job of taking the main talking points of the global digital marketing conversation, relating them back to the contents of the book, and then making them as relevant as it possibly can to what you’re doing. Good luck blog!
- Ultimately, we’re uncomplicating digital marketing like an old-fashioned bartender. You can select your poison for how you’d like to communiqué with us - so far we have email, RSS and Twitter - and stop by anytime for a shot of wisdom with a chaser of enlightenment.
You can help us out too - contribute your own experience, genius and baggage… and also mix your own drink.
For now, read on and see how Method vs Madness is for both digital and analogue-minded humans.
